So how big are you……………… on the inside? Being the small man that I am, (I should have been born in Europe in an earlier century), I have endured a lot of jokes, hugged a lot of arm pits, and look up to almost everyone in my life. I never thought much of it as a kid and it really didn’t matter. I liked the idea that the smallest guy could run faster than many others, was more wiry than many of my heavyweight counter parts and due to the hard work we did on the farm, I wasn’t afraid to tackle men who had a much greater advantage over me and be able to take them down. The surprised look in their eyes said it all! I loved football and wrestling as it gave me a chance to surprise those who had a certain perception of the “little guy.”

But the key is not how big you are on the outside, it is how big are you on the inside? The enemy we face in this spiritual battle called life and the Kingdom of God is not dependant on stature, weight, physical stamina, physique, or any other physical quality or ability. It’s how big is the spirit of God in you and your ability to rise up in the face of uncertainly and danger and stand for what is right.

It was Mark Twain who said, “It is not the size of the dog in the fight, it is the size of the fight in the dog.” It was the prophet Samuel who said “The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” 1 Sam 16:7 NLT

What do you see when you look in a mirror? Do you only see the natural? Are you impressed by your stature or discouraged from the lack thereof? Or are you more concerned about the inward? Paul said, I didn’t come to you with fancy speech, but with the power of the Holy Spirit. No matter what your external looks like, don’t be confident or disheartened by what you see. Exercise the spirit man because when it really counts, it is not the outward that will turn the tables of circumstances, it is the power of God within. May you be filled anew and afresh with His Power today so that you can be the warrior that he has called you to be!
