Just back from two weeks vacation! Over a thousand miles with the boys on our motorcycles, lots of quality time with Bonnie, even a day on the bike together, weekend away with the whole family in the mountains, and lots of work completed around the house. Vacations are good for all of us, when we can change focus and bring a little variety to our busy lifestyles.
I am so glad the Lord never needs to take a vacation from His focus on expanding His Kingdom, both in me an through me. He said in Eph 5:8-9 “For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light!” (NLT) We were once darkness. Everywhere we went we took darkness with us, but now we are light and everywhere we go we take light, His light, with us. John 8:12 Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” (NLT)
It is always important to remember that wherever we go, whether we are on vacation or on the most important mission of our lives, wherever our life and experiences take us, His light goes with us and shines through us. No matter how dark it may seem around us, no matter how oppressive it may feel, it doesn’t matter, His light and life is not only flowing through us, it is emanating out of us. There is a glow around us. That is why when you walk into a place people may look at you differently, talk to you more than the customer before you, begin to tell you things that they have never told anyone. It is because of the glow in you. The life and light of Jesus glowing and flowing!
Darkness never wins out over light, never. Bonnie had glow sticks for the grand children at the mountains. Everywhere they went darkness was dispelled. There was never a time that we were afraid that darkness would swallow up the light. The light pushed out the darkness. The light and life of Jesus that resides in you pushes back the darkness as well. Light is always more powerful.
Jesus tells us in Matt 28:19…go and make disciples of all the nations… Maybe another way to say it would be, glow and make disciples. May He shine through you wherever you find yourself this week. His glow never takes a vacation either. Shine on!!!
