It’s all about me! While there are not too many people I know who would actually say this out loud, many times in our actions and thought processes, it is often the reality. It is like we are in a movie, we are the headlining star and everyone around us is the supporting cast. It’s all about me, my life, my accomplishments, my needs, hurts, wants, desires, and if I don’t take care of myself, who else will, as the saying goes.
How different from the Gospel that Jesus taught. Luke 22:25-27 Jesus told them, “In this world the kings and great men lord it over their people, yet they are called ‘friends of the people.’ 26 But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant. 27 Who is more important, the one who sits at the table or the one who serves? The one who sits at the table, of course. But not here! For I am among you as one who serves. (NLT)
In the movie Jesus was directing, He was part of the supporting cast and the other person was headlining. As many other things in the Gospel, it is directly opposite from what our natural minds think. Our natural minds think the least always waits on the more important. That is why you wait in the doctor’s office for them, they don’t wait for you. The doctor’s time is more important, at least it is perceived that it is.
But Jesus came to serve, and ask us who know Him and want to be like Him, to do likewise. The interesting thing is this, when you become part of the supporting cast in someone else’s movie, over time you often become the star without even trying.
So the litmus test is this. Are you building on others or are they building on you. Are they the supporting cast in your movie or are you more about seeing someone else headline? Unlike all the other movies we watch, this one isn’t fake, it is the real thing, and counts for eternity. Enjoy the show!
