Investing! Something we all think about and practice to a certain degree but in today’s market of immediate gratification, investing for the future seems meaningless and way too restrictive for many. Why wait for tomorrow when we can have it now? Few things can be gained without some kind of investment of either, time, money, emotion, hard work, application, study, or any other commodity we consider precious. And any time we do it, we subconsciously make a decision based on perceived return. As leaders sometimes we pour into people and seemingly don’t see any positive returns nor advancement.

I was struck this morning by 1 Peter 5:4 which speaks specifically to church leaders but I believe also goes beyond that to include anyone who invests in someone’s life.  1 Peter 5:4 And  when the Great Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of never-ending glory and honor. Or as the Message translation says – When God, who is the best shepherd of all, comes out in the open with his rule, he’ll see that you’ve done it right and commend you lavishly.

Investing in people is the greatest investment of all and provides the greatest returns, sometimes you just have to wait for it!
