We do not derive our identity from what we do. We derive our identity from God who created us with specific gifts for a specific plan and purpose that He has for our lives. (See Psalm 139) Our quest therefore is to not get our identity from what we do but to take our identity (who God has created us to be) into everything we do.

If we get our identity from what we do, when we stop doing what we get our identity from, we throw ourselves into identity confusion and then we don’t know who we are nor what we should be doing. Knowing who He has created you to be creates security and clarification on what you have been created to do. Take that identity clarification and apply it in whatever circumstances you are and in everything you do! I think that is called being true to oneself.
