You need to know that you always have the advantage. No matter what the challenge is in front of you, no matter how difficult it may seem, you have the upper hand. Even if it requires you making a major change in your life, you have the trump card to make it happen. You have the Lord on your side!!!
David mentions it in Ps 124:1-4 “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side,” Let Israel now say — 2 “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, When men rose up against us, 3 Then they would have swallowed us alive, When their wrath was kindled against us; 4 Then the waters would have overwhelmed us, The stream would have gone over our soul; NKJV
Can you capture what is happening here. David is making a personal statement of, If it wasn’t for the Lord being on my side, I would be toast. Then he tells those that he is speaking to, hey, you need to understand too that if it hadn’t been the Lord who was on your side, we all would have been overwhelmed by the circumstances and situations.
I illustrated it this way yesterday when I was preaching at Abundant Life Christian Center, in South Brunswick, NJ. It is a great church led by Scott and Priscilla Walsh. I had their son Brian come up front who is a strong young man and told the congregation that we were going to wrestle each other. There is about a 30 year difference in our ages and by the looks of Brian’s biceps, I think he works out in the gym. Anyway, to most people in the audience, I am sure they were putting their money on Brian to win, hands down. But right before we engaged, I said. OH, let me read Ps 124. After reading the first verse, I called three other big men to the front representing Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. I said, I forgot, I got the Lord on my side!!! Now we can engage.
The dynamics had totally changed. Suddenly things looked totally different. In what looked to be a sure thing for Brian’s triumph, suddenly, with the reality of three other huge men on my side, changed to an extremely weighted advantage in my favor. That is the way it is in the spirit when you realize that the Lord is on your side. Hence Paul’s statement in Rom 8:31-32 What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? NLT
So no matter what you are facing this week. It may even be a situation that requires you to acknowledge that you were wrong and ask for forgiveness. Sometimes those humbling things are hard but so very important in our growth process. Whatever life’s circumstances find you in, know that the Lord is on your side and if He is on your side, you have the advantage. Engage!!!
