Body vs. Spirit

Monday marked the one year anniversary of my sister moving from this temporary life to her eternal destiny, Heaven. There was no question that she loved the Lord and life. She was my high level intercessor with whom I could share anything, knowing that she would keep it confidential and pray it through. She certainly is missed, but I know that she is experiencing extreme joy as she has received her reward for her life of obedience here on earth.

Which brings me to an observation that we need to be aware of. For the past number of months I have been praying this, “Father, forgive me for too often looking at things in the natural and what I have for today vs. what will count for eternity.” It is so easy for us to focus on the temporary vs. on the eternal.

All of us know that we are made up of three parts, body, soul, and spirit. If we were honest, I think most of us would confess that we think more about our physical body than we do our spirit. We primarily think we are a body that has a spirit that will last for eternity. What if we turned our thinking around to, “We are primarily a spirit that is currently housed in a physical body.” As a spirit, we would then focus more on spirit and spiritual things vs. our body and fleshly things. Don’t get me wrong, I like my flesh. Without it my spirit wouldn’t have a place to dwell in this life and I would cease to exist here. So, I try and take care of my body (I could certainly grow in this area) for as long as the Lord has me here.

But my spirit is even more important as I am primarily a spirit being that is currently housed in this physical body. Spirit beings, as I said, are open and aware of spiritual things where the supernatural is natural. The Holy Spirit is a spirit and moves naturally in the spirit. It is natural for the Holy Spirit to move supernaturally.  And since I am a spirit, it should be natural for me to do so as well. As Jesus said  in John 14:12-13  “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father”. NLT

So yes, take care of your physical body, but more importantly, take care of your spirit and be mindful of spiritual things as you are primarily a spirit that currently lives in a body. Live supernaturally today!
